GIS Specialist / Landman

Focus: Mineral Land Research & Spatial Intelligence

Location: Sandy, UT (Hybrid)

Type: Flexible (Full-Time or Part-Time)

The Schedule: We are open to discussing both full-time and part-time arrangements for this role. Our priority is finding a GIS professional who can provide consistent, high-quality support to our Landman and field operations.

The Opportunity: Where Data Meets Strategy

Burgex Mining Consultants is the “Tech-Enabled Specialist” for the mining industry. We are looking for an ambitious GIS Specialist / Landman to join our team in Sandy, Utah.

As a GIS Specialist at Burgex, you are a critical engine of our “Value-Add” mission. You don’t just make maps; you translate complex land records and spatial data into the actionable intelligence that our clients need to expand their mineral resource projects. You will work at the intersection of public land records, mineral rights research, and modern GIS technology.

What You Will Do (The Mission)

  • Direct Landman Support: Act as the primary technical right-hand to our Landman Team, executing the day-to-day GIS tasks required to keep our land projects moving forward.
  • Claim Map Production: Create high-accuracy mineral claim maps for both field navigation and formal regulatory filings. You will ensure every map meets state statutes and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) requirements.
  • Field Team Liaison: Serve as the GIS backbone for our field crews. You’ll prepare the digital maps they take into the field and process the data they bring back to ensure “Ground Truth” is accurately reflected in our databases.
  • Land Status & Research: Assist in conducting research through online databases and county records to determine if locations are open for mineral entry, feeding that data directly into your ArcGIS workflows.
  • Data Stewardship: Maintain organized geodatabases and project files within ArcGIS Pro, ensuring that our mapping data is clean, consistent, and ready for immediate use by the land team.

The “Burgex Fit” (Who You Are)

  • You Are Tech-Forward: You view ArcGIS Pro not just as a tool, but as a way to solve complex puzzles. You are organized, self-motivated, and have a high degree of “digital fluencies.”
  • You Are Detail-Obsessed: You understand that in land management, a single coordinate or ownership detail can change the trajectory of a project. You have a “regulatory mindset” and take pride in high-quality, accurate work.
  • You Are a “Value-Adder”: You don’t just check boxes. You have a “Can-do” attitude and are always looking for ways to improve a process or provide more value to a client’s project.
  • You Are Curious: You are eager to learn about the entire mining lifecycle—from construction aggregates to precious metals—and how land status impacts the U.S. mineral supply chain.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Technical Skills: * Strong working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro is required.
  • Experience: 1–3 years of relevant experience is preferred, but we will consider ambitious early-career candidates with a strong technical foundation. Previous Landman experience is not required—we will train the right person.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for collaborating with our multidisciplinary team.
  • Project Management: Ability to multi-task and balance the needs of multiple projects simultaneously and accurately.

Why Burgex?

  • Mentorship: Work directly alongside our Founders, Principal Consultants, and the Mineralocity team. You will learn the business side of exploration and land management from the best in the industry.
  • Hybrid Flexibility: We offer the flexibility you need to do your best work. After an initial in-office training period in Sandy, hybrid work options are available.
  • Growth: We are a fast-growing firm with a clear vision. We prefer to promote from within and provide the development resources you need to advance your career as we expand.
  • Benefits: Competitive pay, 401k match, flexible PTO, and compensation time.

To Apply: Please submit your resume and a brief note about your experience with ArcGIS Pro and why you’re interested in the mining industry.

  • Experience: 1–3 years of relevant field experience (strong internship experience will be considered).
  • Technical Skills:

Why Burgex?

  • Mentorship: Work directly alongside Principal Consultants and Engineers. You won’t be siloed; you will learn the business of mining from the ground up.
  • Variety: One week you might be mapping a limestone deposit for a quarry; the next, you might be sampling for precious metals.
  • Growth: We are a fast-growing firm. We prefer to promote from within, offering a clear path from Staff Geologist to Senior Geologist.
